ACEPHALIX "APORIA" MRR REVIEW
ACEPHALIX – “Aporia” LP
I’ve been seeing ACEPHALIX play since their very first gigs, and they’ve never stopped evolving over the years that they’ve been active. They’ve come a long way from their early NYHC-meets-peace punk sound, and this masterful LP is a new peak for the band. It’s very appropriate that Prank released this album, because there are definite hints of earlier Prank bands like HIS HERO IS GONE and DAMAD in the ACEPHALIX sound, though there are many other influences in the mix as well. Chief among them is the dash of “Humanity Is The Devil”-era INTEGRITY and vintage CRO-MAGS heard in the metallic crunch of the riffs and the unabashed embrace of guitar solos. In fact, this record is just shy of being a full-on metal record (double kicks and all), though one that is fundamentally rooted in punk. That being said, most metal bands don’t have the kind of tortured, nakedly personal (and occasionally deeply psycho-sexual) lyrics that grace this record. Seriously, the harshness and honesty of Dan’s vocals and lyrics are an integral part of what ACEPHALIX work as a band. All gushing aside, there are a few tracks that don’t quite work for me on the record (the instrumental being the primary offender) but taken as a whole I can’t think of another recent release in the metal-punk genre that is nearly as creative or as engaging as this. This is the soundtrack to your next suicide party. (AU)

CD= $11 Post paid in the U.S ./ Canada $13.50 Europe/ Japan/ Australia.
Limited White vinyl + poster for mailorder / Bonus Track on CD.
Ultra downtuned, crushing metallic punk assault. A tungsten gnarl of immense grimy heaviness, the Debut LP by San Francisco's ACEPHALIX touches on influences of bands from divergent points of Punk, metal and hardcore- SACRILEDGE, CRO-MAGS, NAUSEA, MOTORHEAD, HELLSHOCK, ANTI-CIMEX but none of those exactly pinpoints where the band is at and where they continually evolving band is headed, as they brawl through attacks of D-Beat, dirge and thrash. Classic harmonized Metal leads and feedback fly as gutteral vocals spit and growl, with sturdy rhythms supporting the dark melodic undercurrent that drives this crushing, pounding, dense metal-punk hybrid. Massive production by Jef Leppard in the dark attic of Lennon Studios and mastered by George Horn Mastering. 300 copies on White available for Mailorder.

CROW " THE BEATING OF THE WINGS OF DESTRUCTION" 12" Picture Disc
$15 post paid in the U.S. $16.50 Canada $24.00 Europe/ Japan/ Australia.
Pure savagery! A five song 12" EP that fires a punishing volley of metallic riffs, explosive drumming and gravel-raked vocals, Tokyo's long running hardcore band CROW alternate between a long One track A-side of thundering dirge and a B-side of four tracks of unleashed, non stop hardcore fury. Issued in Japan in 2008 on CROW's own Crow records label, this received miniscule distribution stateside and has absolutely Burly cut'n'paste cover art by Crow's Vocalist, so was re-issued as a deluxe 12" picture disc for their recent U.S. Shows and appearance at Austin, Texas's "CHAOS IN TEJAS" festival. One time pressing from the original DMM master plates, limited to 800 copies.
WORLD BURNS TO DEATH / SLANG 7" SPLIT EP
SINGLE COPIES TO US ( DELIVERY CONFIRMATION) OR CANADA BY PAY PAL: $4.00 +$3.50= $7.50
SINGLE COPIES TO EUROPE , AUSTRALIA BY PAY PAL : $4.00 +$6.50 = $ 10.50
Limited White vinyl for mailorder. 350 copies Pressed.
Marking the 2010 summer U.S. tour of Austin, Texas's WORLD BURNS TO DEATH and Sapporo, Japan's veteran hardcore band SLANG, this EP combines two guitar driven blasts of hardcore fury. SLANG have existed for over twenty years evolving between Classic Japanese fast hardcore and downbeat NYHC influences, their track " Our Grey Earth" rampages on SLANG's own path, incorporating the evolution of influences into a fast assault of hardcore that winds to a devastating guitar driven breakdown. WORLD BURNS TO DEATH similarly continue to evolve from caustic bursts of corrosive thrashing to a tempered attack stitched by a melodic guitar riff and glued solid with torrential drum bashing, volatile guitar blasts and harsh vocals, ensuring their track " Babylon Endures" continues their trademark sheer intensity. Limited Red Vinyl copies for Stores and distro only are limited to 650.
CROW "FLOCK OF BEAST" 7" Clear Vinyl Re-press
Clear vinyl re-press limited to 500.
SINGLE COPIES TO US ( DELIVERY CONFIRMATION) OR CANADA BY PAY PAL: $4.00 +$3.50= $7.50
SINGLE COPIES TO EUROPE , AUSTRALIA BY PAY PAL : $4.00 +$6.50 = $ 10.50
Tokyo legends Crow deliver two blasting tracks of doomy, metallic punk mayhem - "Flock Of Beast" and "Flock Of Beast 2." Thundering deeper into epic, mid-tempo territory on the A-side with Crow's trademark boisterous vocals over searing riffs, this EP echoes their recent "The Beating Of The Wings Of Destruction" 12" by exploding on the B-side into ferocious, fast paced hardcore. Crow's origins date back to the early Japanese punk scene of the 1980s, but they have attacked in the last decade with a renewed intensity, culminating this decade in three US tours and a second album "Bloody Tear" which was released in the U.S. by Prank in 2007. Clear vinyl re-press limited to 500.
CROW " NEUROTIC ORGANIZATION" 7" Red Vinyl Re-press
RED VINYL RE_PRESS LIMITED TO 400.
SINGLE COPIES TO US ( DELIVERY CONFIRMATION) OR CANADA BY PAY PAL: $4.00 +$3.50= $7.50
SINGLE COPIES TO EUROPE , AUSTRALIA BY PAY PAL : $4.00 +$6.50 = $ 10.50
Dark and bleak hardcore cornered in metallic rock, but thundering with determined intent. Fueled by the upbeat energy of Japanese hardcore, but drawing longer mid tempo compositions of shouted despair, pounded drum beats and screaming guitars influenced by UK bands such as Antisect and Amebix, the EP includes a rollicking cover of Amebix's "No Sanctuary." Crow has been on and off the hardcore scene for almost two decades, with numerous releases in Japan. This was their first US release in 2001, recorded in Oakland at Polymorph Studios and has been out of print for over six years, with cover art and design by Carl Auge of His Hero Is Gone and Drain the Sky. The Cover has been re-worked for this re-release and the EP issued on limited to 400 red vinyl.
CROW " BLOODY TEAR" LP RE-PRESS
LP- $12.00 US, $13.50 Canada, $21 Europe
Will include Posters from First press with mailorder copies for a limited time.
Bombastic crust-metal from Tokyo, an ultra brutal lightning attack of searing riffs, wild solos, screaming vocals and crushing rhythm section. Bleak intent and searing metallic mayhem, CROW have dotted the landscape of Japanese hardcore punk since its inception and just seem to get more devastating with age!! This is a slightly altered and remastered version of their first full length / second LP since the 1980's with 9 tracks that were originally released by Prank in 2007. Some of the songs are intense re-recorded versions of some of their classic tracks (including their Signature track "Give Up All Hope" that has been covered by numerous bands including the UK"s legendary Doom) as well as new recordings of songs from their recent ultra- limited Japanese releases. This is the official vinyl release of this LP, which was released as a CD-only on the Mangrove label in Japan. The LP sequence has slight variations in both track listing and mixes. CROW are touring in California and appearing at the "Chaos in Tejas" Festival in May. 1000 made / available for a limited time only.
BORN AGAINST " THE REBEL SOUND OF SHIT AND FAILURE" LP
LP- $12.00 US, $13.50 Canada, $21 Europe
The Rebel Sound of Shit and Failure is a 19-song posthumous release of all BORN AGAINST's remaining and out-of-print obscure 7", 8", and compilation tracks with extensive liner notes and lyrics. OUT NOW!!
THREE BRAND NEW SINGLES OUT THIS WEEK FROM PRANK!!!
Apologies about the higher prices, by the time delivery confirmation, pay pal fees and the new higher USPS rates are figured in, the singles are now hitting the $6 and Up range. Both ACEPHALIX and JUDGEMENT have specialty printing and were expensive to make, and the JUDGEMENT will likely not be re-pressed, so has to recoup it's cost from a very limited pressing. HG FACT will release the Judgement Ep in July in Japan.

Tokyo Legends CROW return with two new blasting tracks of Doomy Metallic Punk Mayhem – “FLOCK OF BEAST” and “FLOCK OF BEAST 2”. Thundering deeper into epic, mid tempo metallic territory on the A-side with CROW’s trademark gravel-drawn vocals over searing riffs, this EP echoes their recent “THE BEATING OF THE WINGS OF DESTRUCTION” 12” by exploding on the B-side into ferocious, fast paced hardcore. CROW origins date back to the early Japanese punk scene of the 1980’s, but they have attacked in the last decade with a renewed intensity, culminating this decade in two US tours and a second Album “Bloody Tear” which was released in the U.S. by Prank in 2007. This most recent recording testifies they have no intention of letting up that ferocious Intensity!!!

A brutal combination of Low end Metallic Distortion, Pummeling riffs and Gnarled vocals, San Francisco's ACEPHALIX's Debut 4 song 7" takes influence from all over the map of Extreme music-from CELTIC FROST to CRO-MAGS and INTEGRITY, from WOLFPACK and Later ANTI-CIMEX to SACRILEDGE and AXEGRINDER, but has hammered out and forged it's own sound by relentless gigs around the SF Bay Area over the past year. Featuring current and former members of THE RIFFS, DEPRESSOR, POISON IDEA, DEFIANCE, DEATHCHARGE and BLOWN TO BITS, this is the heaviest thing prank has released in almost fifty releases, a modern attack yet reminiscent of early classic prank releases by DAMAD, ELDOPA 1332 and the bleak punk metal fusions of the late 90's and early 00's. First printing in a foil stamped sleeve.

PRANK WELCOMES ACEPHALIX TO THE ROSTER!

Prank is proud to report We will be releasing the debut 45 for San Francisco's ACEPHALIX a new local band featuring former and/or current members of DEFIANCE, DEPRESSOR, DEATHCHARGE, POISON IDEA and THE RIFFS. Combining the downbeat bone breaking lumbering of some more metal edged NYC/ SXE bands ( Judge, Cro-mags) with the metallic blasting of various past Punk metal Fusions (Sacrilege, Nausea, late Anti-Cimex) with a heavy dose of modern crushing metal punk, We're really stoked to return to releasing something this heavy and great!
Since the start of the band, it's experienced a bunch of line up changes but has it's most solid line up currently and The band has already garnered Some Cool press. The last is a blog post that has a download link to the band's demo, some of which has been re-mastered for this prank Debut and some of the same tracks are featured on the band's myspace. Expect the 7" (in a deluxe foil stamped sleeve!) in May.
