CROW "Last Chaos" LP / CS re-issue

Osaka's CROW formed in the early 1980’s explosion of Japanese hardcore, but have always been a distinctive, unique band even within that astonishing pantheon. Much of Early Japanese hardcore sought, refined and creatively interpreted primary and immediate influence from noisy UK imports by DISORDER and CHAOS UK, but CROW took its unique and deepest impression from DISCHARGE , with powerful vocals fronting distortion laden guitar driven charges. Unafraid to careen the high energy pace into complete musical destruction or ensnare you completely in a fist-pumping chorus driven anthem like the classic “Give Up All Hope” and “Anarchy. Chaos. Destruction”, The Osaka-era CROW existed for a few more years, appearing on the legendary “Eye Of The Thrash Guerrilla” compilation before the band disbanded. A new iteration of the band began in the late 1990’s in Tokyo with prolific discography , toured US several times and continues to this day.

CROW “Last Chaos” Was originally released by the band in an ultra limited edition of 200 in 1987 and re-issued for equally scarce limited edition on Overthrow records in 1994. Both have long since become insanely rare collector’s items. This edition replicates the 14 song original with a high Gloss UV heavy weight 24pt sleeve, four inserts, a silkscreened patch, hand-stamped inner sleeves, sealed into a resealable bag with a crow logo sticker. Remastered by George Horn Mastering from original mix, the prank edition is pressed on three colors of Vinyl : 219 Blood Red Japan-only band color, 220 Clear splatter with two color red for US mailorder and 660 black vinyl. The cassette Version replicates the original record in it’s entirety in an extensive 7-Panel J-Card. 400 pressed with 300 black shell cassettes and 100 Mailorder copies with red shell cassettes.

Raging hardcore from the SF Bay area, NO STATIK's Debut 12" takes a straight forward 80's hardcore charge and detonates it with bursts of chaotic 90's hardcore rapid fire drumming, leaving Guitar leads sear and squeal out of the chaos as brutal vocals dredged and nail down dark, pointed lyrics. Six inventive blasts of thick, stop, start and rampage are on the A-side and the B-side is the title track, an experimental track that weaves the band's hardcore attack in and out of an ambient and rhythmic soundscape.

Vocalist Ruby was previously in MOMENTO MORI and SCROTUM GRINDER. Guitarist Mark was in LOOK BACK AND LAUGH and DESTROY!. Drummer B was in SCHOLASTIC DETH and END OF THE CENTURY PARTY. Bassist Robert was in ARTIMUS PYLE, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? and is in CONQUEST FOR DEATH. The band previously released a debut 7" on IRON LUNG RECORDS, which sold through two pressings in a matter of weeks.

Pure savagery! A five song 12" EP that fires a punishing volley of metallic riffs, explosive drumming and gravel-raked vocals, Tokyo's long running hardcore band CROW alternate between a long One track A-side of thundering dirge and a B-side of four tracks of unleashed, non stop hardcore fury. Issued in Japan in 2008 on CROW's own Crow records label, this received miniscule distribution stateside and has absolutely Burly cut'n'paste cover art by Crow's Vocalist, so was re-issued as a deluxe 12" picture disc for their recent U.S. Shows and appearance at Austin, Texas's "CHAOS IN TEJAS" festival. Dark and bleak hardcore cornered in metallic rock, but thundering with determined intent. Fueled by the upbeat energy of Japanese hardcore, but drawing longer mid tempo compositions of shouted despair, pounded drum beats and screaming guitars influenced by UK bands such as Antisect and Amebix, the EP includes a rollicking cover of Amebix's "No Sanctuary." Crow has been on and off the hardcore scene for almost two decades, with numerous releases in Japan. This was their first US release in 2001, recorded in Oakland at Polymorph Studios and has been out of print for over six years, with cover art and design by Carl Auge of His Hero Is Gone and Drain the Sky. The Cover has been re-worked for this re-release and the EP issued on limited to 400 red vinyl.

Bombastic crust-metal from Tokyo, an ultra brutal lightning attack of searing riffs, wild solos, screaming vocals and crushing rhythm section. Bleak intent and searing metallic mayhem, CROW have dotted the landscape of Japanese hardcore punk since its inception and just seem to get more devastating with age!! This is a slightly altered and remastered version of their first full length / second LP since the 1980's with 9 tracks that were originally released by Prank in 2007. Some of the songs are intense re-recorded versions of some of their classic tracks (including their Signature track "Give Up All Hope" that has been covered by numerous bands including the UK"s legendary Doom) as well as new recordings of songs from their recent ultra- limited Japanese releases. This is the official vinyl release of this LP, which was released as a CD-only on the Mangrove label in Japan. The LP sequence has slight variations in both track listing and mixes. CROW are touring in California and appearing at the "Chaos in Tejas" Festival in May. 1000 made / available for a limited time only.

PRANK WELCOMES ACEPHALIX TO THE ROSTER!

Prank is proud to report We will be releasing the debut 45 for San Francisco's ACEPHALIX a new local band featuring former and/or current members of DEFIANCE, DEPRESSOR, DEATHCHARGE, POISON IDEA and THE RIFFS. Combining the downbeat bone breaking lumbering of some more metal edged NYC/ SXE bands ( Judge, Cro-mags) with the metallic blasting of various past Punk metal Fusions (Sacrilege, Nausea, late Anti-Cimex) with a heavy dose of modern crushing metal punk, We're really stoked to return to releasing something this heavy and great!

Since the start of the band, it's experienced a bunch of line up changes but has it's most solid line up currently and The band has already garnered Some Cool press. The last is a blog post that has a download link to the band's demo, some of which has been re-mastered for this prank Debut and some of the same tracks are featured on the band's myspace. Expect the 7" (in a deluxe foil stamped sleeve!) in May.

It's My Birthday, Prank's 13th Anniversary and still close enough for a West Coast record release show for "The Graveyard of Utopia" So We're flying WORLD BURNS TO DEATH in for what will probably be their only West Coast appearance this year. AUGUST 23rd at Annie's Social Club in SF. 21+... sorry kids, their drummer, because of work and family committments and the way flights out of Austin work can only come to SF for literally 14 hours. Plus we've got a couple other bands we're working on bringing in, so need the higher door take of a bar to not totally eat it on plane flights. Prank is trying to experiment with doing more of these kinds of shows in the Bay, so hopefully We can bring in more bands on Special events and balance them with Shows at Gilman and other All ages venues.

UPdate: IRON LUNG is now on the bill too. Only Bay Area show this summer? DESOLATION and one more will open.

Also-thrillhouse Records is having a a festival that entire weekend, with shows at thrillhouse, The parkside and the Knockout, so it's a great weekend to come to the bay!

PRANK RECORDS UPDATE-MAN IT's BUSY! YET AGAIN

I posted awhile back how MAY is incredibly busy, and it's turning out to be one of the busiest months for Prank Yet. At the printers right now is The New World Burns to Death LP and You can check out a track of it at the Profane Existence Message board. The CD should hit shops in Japan next week, but the LP HOPEFULLY, HOPEFULLY will be done in time for Chaos In Tejas. WB2D are headed to Europe shortly after and will have the LP on Sale for the entire tour.

The Vinyl Version of the New GAUZE is also underway, though the tests came back bassier than expected and that might push this into June.Both the initial Presses of WB2D and GAUZE are being done on heavy weight sleeves, stoked.

Also in Production are the Prank vinyl versions of Paintbox 's two LP's "Singing Shouting Crying" ( which had a Canadian Press a few years ago on the recently re-invigorated Ugly Pop label) but is being re-issued with new artwork, lyrics, mastering and a slightly different A/B side, and the long awaited vinyl issue of their classic Second LP " Earth Ball Sports tournament" , which will receive a deluxe gatefold treatment.

Also in the works with HG FAct is a split 7" release between SIGNAL LOST and japanese band PROTESS, which features two tracks from each band. Singal Lost also have a song on the "Viva Kopi" benefit sampler LP , with a DIRT cover! A benefit for the Kopi Squat in berlin which appears to have a reprieve from developers. Awesome!

We also have everything in now for the new AVSKUM LP/CD, their fourth LP which the band says is their best record yet. This will go into production in May and should be out for Punk Illegal!!

Finally, Out any Day is CHRIST ON PARADE " Live and Loud" LP/CD which ended up taking longer than Expected to finish. This is an "evil Live" styled treatment of a live set from their 2007 tour recorded on KFJC and features the set they were doing on the tour with tracks from all eras of the band and is limited to 550 copies on Green vinyl and 600 CD's. CHRIST ON PARADE just completed a successful tour of Japan and is contemplating a fall East Coast tour with select West coast dates as well.

At the Same time We also will finally have CROW " live at GIlman" DVD on crow records for sale.

We have just re-pressed the GRIMPLE " Get me out of the Van I have no Key" 7" Debut on Clear vinyl, The first HIS HERO IS GONE 7' " the dead of Night In Eight Movements" on Clear vinyl, the DROPDEAD / TOTALITAR Split 7" EP on multi-colors of vinyl, HIS HERO IS GONE LP/CD's "fifteen Counts Of Arson"and " "Monuments To Thieves" and AVSKUM "Punkista"LP on purple vinyl.

Like I said= Busy! Prank pretty much has the summer off after that, taking time to pay some folks, re-press a few other things and will roar back in the fall with IN/HUMANITY Re-issues, SUNDAY MORNIING EINSTEINS LP and a few other things up our sleeve. Meanwhile, because we're not busy enough :) , and since postal rates are about to go up and the dollar is at an all time low, we've launch a one-week "buy wholesale" sale. PRANK'S EARLY YEARS!

There's a nice feature put together on the Early Years of Prank at The grind and Punishment Blog . I think this is a pretty good representation of Some of the things going on at Prank in the mid to late 1990's, though credit where credit is due, I'd like to mention that PASSIVE FIST records was also a key, if not more instrumental player in bringing the southern sound to the lime light. Pat who did the label continues to champion Southern Bands with his even brighter burning HYperrealist records

PUNK RECORD STORE EXPLOSION IN THE BAY AREA!

It's been a few years since THRILLHOUSE records opened in San Francisco- it's still the cheapest place in town to pick up the latest stuff distributed by Ebullition and No Idea, and in carrying up the smelly torch dropped by Mission Records, throws cool shows pretty often in it's basement and has spawned it's own cool THRILLHOUSE label ..

Now the East bay also has it's own punk record shop from the label 1-2-3-4 Go Records . It's a very "tokyo" styled shop-small, well organized and with a good mix of new and old stuff and I've already picked up a bunch of great stuff there ( including that Lost and Found government Issue 7" pictured on their site!). Was there Friday and it was packed with shoppers already! Both of these places have a full stock of Prank records titles.

I've still yet to be at/ find Bill Jackson's ( strung Up, Instant asshole, Born/Dead's) shop somewhere in Oakland that's reported;y a combination of Weekend Skate ramp, skeezy Used VHS tapes and Punk Records- (bill assured me they were doing the shop with everything Record wise at low, punk rock prices), but soon I promise soon I will dust off my Gibson Zorlac and head over.

GEARHEAD Records has a Storeabout two years old in Woodland, not too far from Sacramento that stocks a lot of awesome garage rock, Prank titles and also has nice vintage style clothes and accessories. Woodland is chock full of Killer thrift stores, so it would be a great day excursion from the Bay or Sacto.

Accross from AMOEBA on Haight Street, a DJ store has morphed into SHAXUL RECORDS which features a solid selection of Heavy metal and some punk-including Prank Releases-but an impressive array of Metal shirts and accessories, The store seems like it's still expanding, so drop in when you're up on Haight Street and See what's new.

As always there's the classics- AMOEBA ( now with an expanded "punk" section), STREET LIGHT, RED DEVIL, TIME TUNNEL TOYS and other places in the Bay area to pick up new and used punk. Check Prank records's guide to the bay area which I promise I'll fix the HTML on shortly....

ACURSED NEW LP OUT- FINALLY!!!

Acursed " Tunneln I Ljusets Slut" LP's Showed up yesterday on a truck- Prank is now experimenting with a trucking company to move everything around California, as the UPS bills were just getting stupid. Less bills on things like freight, more records I can make/re-press,etc..so trying to economize.. originally Prank was just to do the CD Version of this LP and the great Swedish Label Putrid Filth Conspiracy were going to do the LP, as they have released the other Acursed full length and Split LP. In the intervening four years since "Tunneln" was recorded however, PFC have slowed down activity, ( just releasing a new, final LP by RAJOITUS - I haven't heard this yet, but their LP's digging all the way back to the '90's on DISTORTION and also Recent one on HARCORE HOLOCAUST both wailed) So now Prank is doing both formats. This was supposed to be out awhile ago, but all sorts of stupidity with the digipak CD printing held it up- the CD version should be done in a week / ten days

Anyway, the Acursed was a long journey waiting on the proper master, the Art, which is suprising once you see the minimalism of the LP ( there's no insert, there's even no SONG TITLES!) and I'm glad it's finally out. It's a total dim the lights, brew some coffee and play loud in the middle of winter kind of record and a great record to start 2008 with. Mastered by George Horn, pressed at RAINBO ( who did a stellar job with the colored vinyl- it's a weird milky clear- not quite grey, and no, not quite-ahem- "semen" either, dorks :). Rainbo are an efficient and great place to make records, but have automated presses, so there's a little less on the fly felixbility that you have at a place with hand presses ( G/z, Bill SMith) for weird colors, so I'm stoked they did such an excellent job here. Bored of Standard reds, whites, greens.

Here's my sales pitch for the Acursed :
"Brutal, devastating metallic hardcore from Sweden, over loaded with feedback as it blasts track after track of savagely shouted, throttling hardcore that slows only to deliver mid-tempo crushing blows . ACURSED, like many of the classic Swedish punk bands, are enigma that surfaces haphazardly to unleash a new set of harsh tracks, previously with several records on Sweden's PUTRID FILTH CONSPIRACY label and the DISTORTION label. Akin to the HIS HERO IS GONE / TRAGEDY/ FROM ASHES RISE school of dark riffs and mood, and the classic original " Prank Sound", " "TUNNELN I LJUSETS SLUT" is ACURSED's years-in-the-making prank debut, and one of the most bleak releases on the label yet- with minimal artwork, the band chose to not even provide song titles in the packaging to keep from distracting from the music and mood. Acursed have a brief interview in the new issue ( #55) of Profane Existence Magazine . As posted above the band only surface haphazardly, and Jon has been busy with SAYYADINA( the last Sound pollution LP - even if you get scared off by the "grind" tag was a really great record- combining that with your standard wailing Swedish punk influences that I think it has a broader appeal than most "grind' records...but just as much brutality, check it out) and VICTIMS have a new Lp out any day on Combat Rock Industry. I think Havoc is distro-ing this stateside . Acursed and SME drummer Anton is criminally not behind a drum kit right now, but is busy with Sanctuary in Blasphemy singing and playing guitar with the man, the myth, Jens on Drums. I swear if accordian and bagpipes got suddenly adopted into all Hardcore and metal, all these Swedish dudes would master that too.
