TOTALITÄR "SIN EGEN MOTSTANDARE" LP / CD Re-issue

 

Sweden’s TOTALITÄR  originated from small town Hudiksvall in the mid-80’s silver age of Swedish Hardcore punk, releasing a few EP’s and touring the UK before disbanding in 1990. In 1994 the band reunited with new drummer, Jallo from NO SECURITY, to record what is arguably one of the best Swedish hardcore punk albums ever made, Sin Egen Motstandare “One’s own enemy” . Like any great punk record,  it’s a stark reaction to the world around them  with poignant, relevant lyrics but served as marker for the elevation to what would become TOTALITÄR’s trademark sound -  quick, raging blasts of riveting d-beat hardcore drawing influence from Classic DISCHARGE and early Swedish hardcore, but distilled to remarkable, catchy simplicity that masked incredible ingenuity within it’s straight forward template. Their prolific recording saw them record another  2 LP's, 2 split LP’s , 10 7””s EP’s and split EP’s with TRAGEDY, DROPDEAD and more, until a final live performance in 2003 at Pointless fest in Philadelphia saw the members dispersed to play in too many bands to count: MEANWHILE, DISSEKERAD, KRIG I HUDIK, INSTITUTION, KRIGSHOT, MAKABERT FYND, KATASTROF, KRIGSHOT, KVOTERINGEN, HUMANT BLOD and more.

Originally released as a CD-only release on the Finn Record label, “Sin Egen Motståndare”  was originally released on vinyl by Prank in 1997 and again in a remastered version in 2003. This edition is from the original 2003 metal work but pressed at RTI and presented in a stoughton tip-on sleeve with insert. Both the music and the message of TOTALITAR remain a vital inspiration, who’s influence has only grown with time, and we are proud to present this again. CD version is a straight repress from the 2003 remaster done at John Golden.

Pressed for Avskum's Japan tour at the start of this month, this is Avskum's original 1982 demo put to vinyl for the first time. 12 tracks original recorded in 1982, these are lo-fi crude bashing akin to the band's legendary "Crucified By the System" EP (with the band's original guitarrist-Bassist Hakan switched over to Guitar in the early 90's and Jorgen was added on Bass) Limited to 600 copies!

Absolutely brilliant new CD (also available on LP) from this long standing Swedish band. 16 songs of pure adrenalin bursting forth, that captures them at their very best and easily one of the best releases in this genre. A fantastic mixture of DISCHARGE, MOTORHEAD and any good classic Swedish band you could think of. While harsh and heavy, each song evokes the listener to stay tuned and that's where you get reeled in and you are not going to get away so easy. With songs like these who would want to. Plenty of great riffage and thumping beats, exploding vocals and everything you would hope for in a great CD. The artwork/layout captures the mood. A molotov mix of perfected Swede-core and lyrical anger—Avskum are back, once again, to blast through the dreck. They’ve honed it down to the essence—blazing riffs driven by rumbling bass and crashing drums. Three of the songs are in English, the rest in Swedish and it’s not too tough to ascertain that these guys are quite pissed about the state of the world—I don’t even need to look up “Masskonsumtions Helevetet” to know where they’re coming from. One little wrinkle that stood out was the undistorted riff that begins “The Massacre In Fallujah,” before the burn kicks in. An overkill attack of smashing drums and guitar riffage, This Fourth Lp hearkens back to their 1982 origins , with a heavy DISCHARGE bent ala' ANTI-CIMEX mired with the incomprehensibily raw, blunt and brutal song structures found in the original era of Swedish hardcore punk . The MOTORHEAD-ish rock overdrive of their previous Prank LP's is still cranked with the curt economy of masters at the top of their game, capped with AVSKUM's inventive song structures and always great, trademark harsh vocals, all captured in a exceptional recording from Gothenburg's EVIL GRILL studio and slapped in a cool sleeve by Swedish artist CRASH MANGE . JUNE 2008! New AVSKUM!

PRANK RECORDS UPDATE-MAN IT's BUSY! YET AGAIN

I posted awhile back how MAY is incredibly busy, and it's turning out to be one of the busiest months for Prank Yet. At the printers right now is The New World Burns to Death LP and You can check out a track of it at the Profane Existence Message board. The CD should hit shops in Japan next week, but the LP HOPEFULLY, HOPEFULLY will be done in time for Chaos In Tejas. WB2D are headed to Europe shortly after and will have the LP on Sale for the entire tour.

The Vinyl Version of the New GAUZE is also underway, though the tests came back bassier than expected and that might push this into June.Both the initial Presses of WB2D and GAUZE are being done on heavy weight sleeves, stoked.

Also in Production are the Prank vinyl versions of Paintbox 's two LP's "Singing Shouting Crying" ( which had a Canadian Press a few years ago on the recently re-invigorated Ugly Pop label) but is being re-issued with new artwork, lyrics, mastering and a slightly different A/B side, and the long awaited vinyl issue of their classic Second LP " Earth Ball Sports tournament" , which will receive a deluxe gatefold treatment.

Also in the works with HG FAct is a split 7" release between SIGNAL LOST and japanese band PROTESS, which features two tracks from each band. Singal Lost also have a song on the "Viva Kopi" benefit sampler LP , with a DIRT cover! A benefit for the Kopi Squat in berlin which appears to have a reprieve from developers. Awesome!

We also have everything in now for the new AVSKUM LP/CD, their fourth LP which the band says is their best record yet. This will go into production in May and should be out for Punk Illegal!!

Finally, Out any Day is CHRIST ON PARADE " Live and Loud" LP/CD which ended up taking longer than Expected to finish. This is an "evil Live" styled treatment of a live set from their 2007 tour recorded on KFJC and features the set they were doing on the tour with tracks from all eras of the band and is limited to 550 copies on Green vinyl and 600 CD's. CHRIST ON PARADE just completed a successful tour of Japan and is contemplating a fall East Coast tour with select West coast dates as well.

At the Same time We also will finally have CROW " live at GIlman" DVD on crow records for sale.

Like I said= Busy! Prank pretty much has the summer off after that, taking time to pay some folks, re-press a few other things and will roar back in the fall with IN/HUMANITY Re-issues, SUNDAY MORNIING EINSTEINS LP and a few other things up our sleeve. Meanwhile, because we're not busy enough :) , and since postal rates are about to go up and the dollar is at an all time low, we've launch a one-week "buy wholesale" sale. VICTIMS EAST COAST TOUR !

Sweden's VICTIMS are touring the East Coast and Canada starting at the end of this month. They have a, indeed, killer new record out now on Combat Rock Industry after a bunch of great records on HAVOC.
Jon From Acursed plays in VICTIMS and ACURSED's Prank Debut "Tunneln I ljusets Slut" has picked up a couple of cool reviews at the Grind and Punishment BLog, Cult Punk and Attackfanzine.net

AVSKUM " Uppror Underifrån" LP RECORDED!

Avskumhttp://www.avskum.com/ have now recorded 16 new songs, for their forthcoming record- "Uppror Underifrån on Prank , at Evil Grill studio We're hoping for a June release, so the gig in Munkedal 27/6 at Punk Illegal fest 3 , will be their record release show. I've yet to hear but a few of the rough mixes which wailed....but they claim it's their most experimental record yet, but still at the same time sounding like raw, early 80's swedish D-beat. stoked!

In other Avskum news, look for a long delayed vinyl re-press of "Punkista" shortly.
